In the final scene of Henrik Ibsen’s 1879 groundbreaking masterwork, Nora Helmer makes the shocking decision to leave her husband and children and begin a life on her own. This climactic event—when Nora slams the door on everything in her life—instantly propelled world drama into the modern age. In A Doll’s House, Part 2, many years have passed since Nora’s exit. Now, there’s a knock on that same door. Nora has returned. But why? And what will it mean for those she left behind?
Tacoma Little Theatre encourages performers of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, and performers living with disabilities to audition.
Auditioners will be asked to perform 2-3 short cold readings (of the director’s choosing) from the play. If the auditioner wishes, they may prepare a strictly one minute comedic or dramatic monologue, not from the play. If time is available and the auditioner would like, they may do a short reading of their own choosing from the play.
All roles are available:
NORA (female presenting, 40s): Fiercely independent and confident; a resourceful woman returning to a life she abandoned to ensure her future; and it may break her. even when she seems a bit too smug or certain, we must like her.
ANNE MARIE (female presenting, 50s-60s): Really exhausted, but making it work; Nora’s former nanny, replacement mother to Nora’s children, and the person who picked up the pieces after Nora left; she thought she’d never see Nora again, but she does, and she’s pissed.
TORVALD HELMER (male presenting, 50s): A gentle, mostly affable single father shocked by the arrival of his wife 15 years after she left; being confronted with Nora rocks his world; maybe he’s still in love with her, maybe he isn't. When he loses it, we are surprised.
EMMY HELMER (female presenting, about 18): Confident, charming, able to get what she needs; she's Nora's daughter for sure; it's been 15 years since Nora left her, and Emmy has not forgiven her mother; but she needs Nora now.
All actors receive a travel reimbursement up to $150.00.
