Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for the politically charged story, The Manchurian Candidate, adapted by John Lahr from the Richard Condon novel. The production will be directed by John W. Olive.
Auditions will be held Sunday, March 22nd and Monday, March 23rd at Tacoma Little Theatre. Audition appointments will be set starting at 6:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm on Monday in five-minute increments. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, March 25th.
Set in 1999, young American hero Raymond Shaw is decorated for saving his troops in a peacekeeping mission in the Middle East. He returns to the U.S. to find his wealthy widowed mother has married the right wing racist Senator John Iselin. Their goal of reaching the White House gets closer and closer as a game of solitaire figures prominently in the murder of everyone who blocks their way. As a tightly wound plot of espionage, brainwashing, and ruthless ambition unwinds, Raymond Shaw doesn't appear as the war hero everyone thought he was.
Auditioners are asked to prepare a short, 1-2 minute, contemporary non-comedic monologue.
Actors of all ethnicities and gender identities are encouraged to audition and all roles are available. Primary roles include: Ben Marco (male, 20s-30s), Raymond Shaw (male, 20s-30s), Mrs. Iselin (female, 50s-60s), Johnny Iselin (male 50s-60s), Eugenie Cheyney (female 20s-30s), Jocie Jordan (female, 20-30), Holborn Gaines (male, 40s-60s), and several character roles for both men and women of all ages over 18. Total number of roles are 9 men and 5 women. Ages given are playable ages, actors need not specifically fit the given age to audition.
