BOARD TERM 2026-2029

Julia Kagochi (she/her) is a Tacoma-based anti-racism educator and organizational consultant specializing in the non-profit sector. Julia started her consulting business almost nine years ago because of a personal desire to create a healing space for herself and other Black and brown people impacted by racist workplaces and systems. Its central mission is to provide tools, resources, and guidance for individuals, groups, and organizations navigating their own journeys into racial justice. Julia uses relational storytelling and draws on both personal and professional experiences to engage others in difficult conversations.

Julia graduated from Hofstra University with the initial goal of working with families and children. Her career trajectory took a turn, and Julia has been an equity practitioner for the last 15 years. Three years ago, Julia helped the Justice for Girls Coalition pilot a program to provide holistic and gender-responsive support to system-impacted girls and gender-expansive youth at two Tacoma high schools. This experience reawakened Julia’s passion for youth programming and education, and she is now working toward her Master’s in Education with the hope of becoming the kind of caring adult every child needs. Julia will soon be transitioning out of her consulting business to become a full-time teacher.

While Julia does not have a theatre background, she started dabbling in improv a few years ago and has fallen in love with the ability to be silly and weird on stage. In her spare time, Julia loves being in the community and challenging institutions like Tacoma Parks through her work with the Hilltop Equity and Access Committee. Julia also sidelines as a momager for both of her musical theater-loving daughters, a weekend soccer chauffeur, and a gluten-free food taster.
